How to make a word search book for Amazon KDP
Word search books are one of the most popular low-content niches on Amazon. Here is the full process, from idea to a print-ready file.
1. Pick a theme and an audience
Narrow themes sell better than generic ones: seniors in large print, kids' animals, Bible words, holidays, a specific hobby. Search Amazon for your theme and look at reviews to see what buyers ask for.
2. Prepare your word lists
Plan one list per puzzle, usually 10 to 20 words. Keep words on topic, avoid duplicates and check spelling — buyers notice mistakes.
3. Choose the trim size and margins
8.5 × 11 in is the most common size for puzzle books; 6 × 9 in works for travel books. Keep KDP's margin rules so nothing is cut at printing.
4. Generate the puzzles and the solutions
Each puzzle needs a matching answer page. In Puzzle Crafter you choose the game, size and number of puzzles, and the book is built with a SOLUTIONS section and page numbers automatically.
5. Check the interior
Preview the full book: titles, page numbers, frames and solutions. Make sure the page count matches what you will enter in KDP.
6. Upload to KDP
Download the PDF, create a new paperback in KDP, upload the interior and your cover, then order a proof copy before publishing.
